A friendly social club for everybody
The Friday Social Group meets every Friday afternoon in the Church Meeting Room between 2pm and 4pm. It was formerly the Over-60s Club, but in 2019 it decided to reinvent itself to cater for a wider range of interests and ages. You’re no longer old at 60 and the Group welcomes villagers of all ages who appreciate good company in a relaxed atmosphere.
Regular activities
Generally, the first part of the afternoon sees some members playing dominoes or whist. We enjoy a bit of friendly competition so we award an annual cup to whoever wins the most games during the year.
There’s a break for tea and biscuits, and also a raffle. In the last half hour we enjoy a few games of bingo. But with our new, more informal structure, we welcome new ideas for both regular activities and special events.
Guest Speakers
We periodically welcome guest speakers on a wide variety of topics, such as country walks, musical entertainment, wildlife, recycling, mobility aids – indeed almost any subjects of interest. Most of the public services have given talks, including the Police, Fire Service, Pensions, Age Concern and so on.
Outings & Events
According to members’ interests, we arrange outings several times during the year, such as a trip to the coast in the summer, a mystery tour with a pub meal, a Christmas show, or a Christmas party. And we also like to run fund-raising events for good causes.
Organisation
The Group is run by a small committee of members. Details of all meetings and outings are published in SCAN, or can be obtained from Dianne Glen (07400 693351). Why not come along one Friday and make some new friends?
