Above are photographs of the Commemorations held in Stilton on 11 November
and 13 November. 11th November 2011
There
are three war graves in the cemetery.The commemoration was led by Stuart Reed,
Church Warden. Children dressed in Brownies and Cub uniforms from Stilton School
and Holme School place poppy posies on each of the graves. The Royal British Legion
was represented by Tom Cochrane who lowered the Legion flag as a mark of respect.
War and Services veterans were also amongst the group of 20 who attended. Poppy
crosses are also placed around the twinning olive tree in the Church Yard.
13th November 2011 The
Village uniformed organisations processed from the village centre with the British
Legion flag at the head. The standard bearer was Tom Cochrane and he lead a procession
of over 50 young people and adults. There followed the Remembrance Sunday Service
in St Mary's Church led by Canon Malcolm Griffiths, Rural Dean for the Ely Diocese.
The Church was packed. |
