What
is North Hunts Community Car Scheme?
North
Hunts Community Car Scheme provides door-to-door transport
for people who do not have the use of a car and are unable
to use conventional public transport.
Journeys
are arranged through the co-ordinator and are provided by
volunteers using their own cars. These drivers support the
community by giving their time. Please treat them with the
courtesy and respect that they deserve.

Who
can use the service?
People
living in the parishes of Alwalton, Chesterton, Caldecote,
Connington, Denton, Elton, Farcet, Folksworth, Glatton, Haddon,
Holme, Morborne, Sibson Cum Stibbington, Stilton, Water Newton,
Washingley, Yaxley who are unable to make essential journeys
by any other means. You do not have to be disabled to use
this service.

What
type of journey can you make?
Mainly
essential journeys, including but not limited to: appointments
at the surgery/hospital, opticians, dentist or picking up
prescriptions. Also visiting friends and relatives in hospital.
The scheme is particularly aimed at helping the elderly and
disabled to get out and about.
All journeys
are at the discretion of the co-ordinator and are dependent
upon availability of drivers.

How
much does it cost?
Passengers
make a contribution of 25p per mile towards the cost of their
journey. Mileage calculation begins from the drivers home.
The driver also receives a subsidy per mile from Cambridgeshire
County Council. The combined amount aims to cover expenses
incurred by the driver, such as petrol costs and some of the
wear and tear on the car. Passengers pay their contribution
to the driver on the day of travel, in cash. Volunteers do
not charge for their time when travelling or waiting.
